Cycle tour around IJsselmeer

This cycle tour around the IJsselmeer is probably one of the most popular holidays in the Netherlands, as you’ll cycle around the former Zuidersee, which once was the gateway from the Netherlands to the world and is home to many interesting Hanseatic cities. You’ll cycle through Friesland, which sees itself more as an independent state rather than a province. In Flevoland, you’ll be able to witness how land is reclaimed from the sea. A ferry ride across the IJsselmeer rounds off this beautiful cycle tour, which is also suitable for less-experienced cyclists.

Day 1 Arrival in Huizen
This small town between Noord-Holland and Flevoland is the starting point of your tour. There is free parking at the 4 * hotel.

Day 2 Huizen - Volendam, approx. 57 km/35 mi
Today you cycle via the well-preserved fortified town of Naarden and lively Amsterdam to the former fishing village of Volendam. Enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle in the alleys and restaurants.

Day 3 Volendam - Enkhuizen, approx. 52 km/38 mi
Via the cheese town of Edam you will reach the important harbor town of Hoorn with its 17th century houses worth seeing. From there you will cycle along the shore of the Ijsselmeer to the formerly important harbor town of Enkhuizen.

Day 4 Ferry ride, Stavoren - Lemmer, approx. 32 km/20 mi
A ferry takes you to Friesland in 1.5 hours. From there you cycle along the cliffs of the Ijsselmeer coast of the wooded Gaasterland to Lemmer.

Day 5 Lemmer - Kampen, approx. 65 km/40 mi
Your bike tour today is characterized by paths along various lakes, canals and the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The destination is the old Hanseatic town of Kampen, where bells and cannons were also cast in the past.

Day 6 Kampen - Harderwijk, approx. 45 km/28 mi
Through an extensive heath area and small wooded areas you will reach the cozy village of Harderwijk. Harderwijk has one of the world's largest dolphinariums.

Day 7 Harderwijk - Huizen, approx. 49 km/31 mi
On the last day, you’ll cycle through the Arkemheen-Eemland National Park. In Spakenburg you can see many old sailing ships.
